In 2004, to celebrate its 100th anniversary, Rolls-Royce introduced the 100EX concept car. One of its most striking features was the extensive use of light-colored teak throughout the vehicle.
From the rear deck and luggage compartment to the convertible cover and door panels, handcrafted teak details added a sense of elegance and luxury. Each piece of wood was carefully selected, treated, and assembled by skilled craftsmen.
Rolls-Royce is not alone in appreciating teak. The species has long been a preferred material for luxury yachts, high-end hotels, and premium interior projects around the world.

Often referred to as the "King of Woods," teak is one of Indonesia’s most treasured natural resources.

Java Island is one of the world's most important teak-producing regions. Areas such as Blora and Cepu are widely recognized as premium teak-growing zones, with Blora often earning the nickname "The City of Teak."

The region's calcium-rich limestone soil contributes to the development of teak with higher natural oil content and exceptional dimensional stability.

To protect this valuable resource, Indonesia established a state-controlled forestry management system that oversees teak plantations and sustainable harvesting practices. This long-term commitment to forest management has helped establish the global reputation of Indonesian teak.
 

One of teak’s most remarkable qualities is its natural protection system.
The wood contains natural oils and silica deposits within its cellular structure. Together, these elements help provide:

• Resistance to decay and weathering

Freshly cut teak displays a warm golden-brown color that gradually weathers into an attractive silver-gray tone when exposed outdoors.
Its surface feels naturally smooth and slightly oily, often accompanied by a subtle leather-like aroma that many wood enthusiasts find distinctive and appealing.
Despite its density and durability, teak remains relatively easy to machine, cut, sand, and finish.

One of the most famous examples of teak’s durability comes from the RMS Titanic.
After resting beneath the ocean for more than a century, much of the ship's structure had severely deteriorated due to corrosion and biological damage. However, many teak components remained remarkably intact when recovered.
This example highlights teak’s extraordinary resistance to moisture, decay, and insects.
Because of these qualities, teak furniture can remain functional and beautiful for decades, even in demanding environments.

Indonesian teak is also known for two easily recognizable characteristics:
